Building A Sustainable Future>> |
|
This presentation is based on the numerous studies of the FTTH Council Europe and will fist give an overview of the situation of FTTH in Europe and worldwide. Then it will discuss the three aspects of sustainable development: society, economy and environment.
The presentation will prove: - FTTH and Environmental Sustainability: why FTTH- networks have a positive impact on the environment - FTTH and Economic Sustainability: how FTTH can contribute to economic growth - FTTH and Social Sustainability: why FTTH improves the quality of life
Several examples of FTTH users who already benefit from FTTH will back up the statements.

Technology vs. Business Model when building municipal fibre based networks>> |
|
The presentation will discuss the necessity of broadband networks for the development of a modern municipality. » Broadband is no longer a luxury, but rather an utility. » Broadband is critical for the economic vitality of communities and nations. » Together or in complement to telecom operators, municipalities are excelent entities for undertaking deployment of broadband infrastructures. » State-of-the-art infrastructure can help municipalities overcome their challenges by generating additional revenues, reducing their administrative costs and better serving the citizens.

New generation networks and the emergency for new kind of infrastructures in inhabitation buildings>> |
|
The advent of fiber optics access networks and, with almost absence of rules/standards emanating from regulation bodies, the operators are “creating” home made solution for accessing the inhabitation buildings. At this moment, and spatially in oldest buildings, installing fiber cables at client’s homes it’s a real adventure with unknown ending. It’s absolutely mandatory that regulating bodies being able to establish procedures for allowing equal access opportunity, proper technologies and future proof solutions.

After one year WDM PON, experiences and plans>> |
|
Mid 2008 UNET started connecting SME customers on optical fiber, using WDM PON. Now, after one year, we can report our experiences. Furthermore we present a strategy to roll-out a city-wide network, based on WDM PON.

How a simple strand of fiber saved 600 jobs in a 3,500 habitants town This presentation will illustrate the bottom-up approach, by three different business cases of three different towns, in three different Rural areas, which are planning to deploy their own Muni FTTH networks. In Champagne, the local authority of Montmirail will keep its main local employer and thus get Fiber-To-The-Home. In southern Ile-de-France, the small village of La Grande Paroisse is to offer innovative Next Gen services to both its Elders and GenY population. In the Alpes, a well known Ski Resort will use Fiber in order to get its foreign visitors back.

Panel Session: New Cabling techniques and Technologies>> |
|
Telecom Italia domestic NGN2 plan & first deployment experiences with new cabling technologies In 2008 Telecom Italia started its NGN2 with a technical trial in the Milan area. The deployment of fiber in access network, is continuing in other areas (e.g. in Rome area), in order to provide the growing bandwidth our customers and our networks need. The use of new cabling technologies in these activities is essential to contain capex and to minimize the social impact of civil works.
(Paolo Dal Bono, Manager – Strategy Department, Telecom Italia)
Innovative fiber and cable technology in your MDU Network = saving costs! The Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) environment has focused all its attention to the network inside a Multi-Dwelling Unit (MDU); as 74,6% of all Europeans live in medium rise apartment (MDU) building this poses a problem: a problem to be solved with innovative technological solutions. In this session Draka shows its ‘Value Innovation’ capabilities; using its cutting-edge fiber and cabling technology building new innovative solutions to keep costs low and flexibility high!
(Edgar Aker, Director Marketing & Product Management, Draka Telecom Solutions)
NEW promising technology: micro-trenching Uffe will introduce a new technology that will be a ground breaking tool for operators to make quick, easy (limited stress) and in-expensive infra-structures/new duct systems
(Uffe Mogensen, CEO, GM Plast)
